The Role of Cores 1, 2, 3 in the VaruB Water Filter Set (PP, PP+OCB, PP)
AuthorAdmin 01

In the VaruB water filter core set, core 1 (PP) holds large dirt, core 2 (PP+OCB) both filters sediment and absorbs odors and chlorine with activated carbon, and core 3 (PP) filters the final fines before water enters the RO membrane. The three cores work in series so that the RO membrane, the most expensive part of the machine, does not have to treat water with many impurities.

The Role of Cores 1, 2, 3 in the VaruB Water Filter Set (PP, PP+OCB, PP)

In the VaruB water filter core set, core 1 (PP) holds large dirt, core 2 (PP+OCB) both filters sediment and absorbs odors and chlorine with activated carbon, and core 3 (PP) filters the final fines before water enters the RO membrane. The three cores work in series so that the RO membrane, the most expensive part of the machine, does not have to treat water with many impurities.

Why does the RO purifier need 3 coarse filter cores?

The RO membrane has extremely small filter holes, very effective but also very "sensitive". If the input water contains sediment, mud, rust or residual chlorine, the membrane will quickly become clogged, degraded, the output water will be weak and its lifespan will be reduced. Therefore, three coarse filter cups are placed in front of the RO membrane to treat water in each stage: coarse first, absorbent in the middle, fine at the end.

Understanding the role of each core helps you know which cores need attention, why you should not skip core replacement periodically, and why a set of cores is designed with three different positions instead of three identical cores.

Core 1 – PP: first line of defense

PP (polypropylene) core is a sediment filter core, pressed from plastic fibers into foam blocks. When water passes through, large particles are trapped in the outer layer of the core.

What Core 1 handles:

  • Sand, mud, and dirt are suspended in the water
  • Rust residue from old pipes
  • Debris can clog the rear cores

The real role of core 1: This is the core that experiences the first "collision" with the water source, so it often gets dirty the fastest. It protects core 2 and core 3 from premature clogging. If core 1 is neglected, sediment builds up causing the water to flow weakly and the cores behind have to work too hard.

For homes using well water or long-term pipes, core 1 is the place that should be checked most often.

Core 2 - PP+OCB: both filters sediment and absorbs odor and chlorine

Core 2 is a core that combines two layers in one. The outer PP layer continues to retain residual residue, while the inner layer is OCB granular activated carbon has the ability to absorb.

What Core 2 handles:

  • Smell of chlorine, strange smell in water
  • Residual chlorine, which damages the RO membrane in the long run
  • Some organic substances and impurities cause unpleasant odors and tastes

The real role of core 2: this is the only "absorbent station" of the VaruB set. Residual chlorine is the big enemy of the RO membrane, so the activated carbon core in the middle is responsible for removing chlorine before the water reaches the membrane. It is important to note that this is the difference between the two strains: VaruB has one activated carbon core (core 2), while VaruA has two activated carbon cores in positions 2 and 3. Therefore, with water sources with a lot of chlorine or strong odor, customers should consider when choosing between the two lines, and contact the hotline for advice.

Core 3 - PP: final filtration before RO membrane

Core 3 of VaruB is a pure PP core, located right in front of the RO membrane. After the water has passed through core 1 and core 2, core 3 is responsible for fine filtration, retaining small remaining particles, including carbon dust that can peel off from the front activated carbon core.

The real role of core 3: is the final stop that protects the RO membrane. The cleaner the water entering the membrane, the more durable the membrane and the more stable the water flow out. Depending on needs, core position 3 can also be replaced with another functional core (for example, UF core), but VaruB's standard configuration still uses PP core.

Why is the order of core installation important?

The three cores cannot be interchanged. The principle is Filter from coarse to fine: core 1 holds large residue, core 2 absorbs, core 3 finely filters. If you put the crystal core first, it will clog very quickly; If you put an activated carbon core at the top, it has to carry all the dirt and wear out prematurely. When replacing the core yourself, you just need to go in the correct order of cup 1, cup 2, cup 3 in the direction of the water flow.

General specifications of the VaruB core set

All three cores in the VaruB suite are the same size: diameter 63, length 10 inches, use quick connector. This design is equivalent to the SMAX Pro V set on the market, replacing Karofi machines that use new generation white cups and many machines with 3 regular 10-inch coarse cups. Thanks to the quick connector, you can change the core yourself at home without needing a technician.

How often should the core be replaced and inspected?

All three cores in the VaruB set should be replaced maximum after 12 months, depending on input water quality and frequency of use. The core observation cup should be removed once a month: If core 1 has changed dark color, the water flow is weak or the water has a bad smell again, replace it sooner than expected, don't wait for the full 12 months.

Frequently asked questions

Which core in the VaruB set is most important?

All three are necessary because each core holds a separate task. However, core 2 is the only core with activated carbon to absorb odors and chlorine, so be careful if your water source has a distinct odor or you use clean city water purified with chlorine.

Is it possible to replace only one core and keep the other two cores?

Maybe if the other two cores are still good, but core 1 usually gets dirty the fastest so it may need to be replaced sooner. When checking monthly, it is reasonable to replace any dirty cores. Observe the dirt on the cotton surface of the core.
